Many children who experience difficulties pronouncing words and being understood can also begin to lose their confidence and self-esteem. Feeling like people don’t understand what you’re saying and not receiving the feedback we need to feel secure in our abilities, can have long-term effects. Some children will begin to speak less in general, and others may shy away from social opportunities and building new relationships.
While it is true that children need to improve their communication and learn to pronounce certain sounds and words, they also need to enjoy the social experience that clear communication enables. They must develop confidence around the process of speaking clearly. To do this, it is important to address both the physical and emotional sides of all language and communication disorders.
By addressing the physical elements of forming sounds and words, and the emotional needs of the child to improve their confidence around communicating, we can ensure long-term success and more rapid application of these skills.
Our Clear and Confident™ Speech Therapy Program addresses both parts and provides the intensity necessary for rapid progress. This program takes place over 12 weeks. We will provide an initial evaluation at the beginning of the program and a re-evaluation at the end to determine progress and next steps.
- We offer therapist-based support in the office and at the home. In the office, children will receive speech therapy 2 -3 times a week, 1 hour each session, followed by a 30-minute practice communication session with a social communication expert.
- We will also provide you with activities and recommendations for the home environment. Having conversations, telling stories, and playing games that support the use of these skills are essential for mastery and generalization.
